Sandy Law Firm is a family-owned and operated law firm that has been serving Iowa and Minnesota for over 30 years. Our firm was founded in 1982 by John L. Sandy, a seasoned attorney with extensive experience in criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law. Since its inception, the firm has grown to include a team of dedicated attorneys who share John's commitment to excellence and client satisfaction.

Our Attorneys

John L. Sandy has been practicing law for over 40 years and has a broad range of legal expertise in criminal defense, civil litigation, wills and trusts, and family law. He is a veteran of the Iowa Great Lakes and has been serving the community with his unique blend of legal expertise and personal commitment to his clients.

Shannon Sandy joined the firm in 1991 and has over 30 years of extensive experience in juvenile and family law. She is certified as a Child Welfare Law Specialist by the National Association of Counsel for Children and has practiced as an adjunct professor of family law at Iowa Lakes Community College.

Christopher D. Sandy focuses on representing plaintiffs in a variety of civil litigation matters, including claims for breach of contract, personal injury, workers' compensation benefits, and state and federal employment discrimination claims. He also provides counsel for other legal challenges, including criminal defense and general civil litigation.

Michael L. Sandy's practice focuses on representing plaintiffs in a variety of civil litigation matters, including claims for breach of contract, family law, and estate planning. He also provides counsel for other legal challenges, including criminal defense and general civil litigation.

Tyler Alger's practice focuses on a variety of matters, both civil and criminal. He provides counsel for personal injury claims, suits for breach of contract, and other civil litigation matters, as well as criminal defense and estate planning. Prior to joining Sandy Law Firm, Tyler clerked for the district court judges in District 3A in Dickinson County, Iowa.

Alexandria's practice focuses on representing clients in a variety of civil and criminal matters. She practices in juvenile, criminal defense, family law, personal injury, and civil litigation matters. Prior to joining Sandy Law Firm, Alexandria practiced as a student attorney in the Children's Rights Clinic housed in the Drake Legal Clinic.

Erica Barthole graduated with an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies from Western Iowa Tech Community College. She has several years of experience as a legal assistant and has worked for a Sioux City law firm. Erica has also lived in the Iowa Great Lakes area for several years, raising her family and volunteering in the community.

Kristine Payne graduated with an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies from Iowa Lakes Community College. She has experience working as a paralegal and has been a vital part of the Sandy Law Firm's team for many years.
