Meet Our Attorney

Christopher Schinstock, the founder of our firm, is widely regarded as one of the top divorce and family law lawyers in the metropolitan Washington region. With a reputation for being diligent, thorough, and possessing strong litigation skills, he is well-liked and respected by his peers and rivals. Unlike many lawyers today, he is comfortable with complex legal issues and articulates them clearly.

Our History

Christopher Schinstock, the youngest of three sons of a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and raised primarily in Southern Arizona. He followed a brother to VMI without even having laid eyes on the Lexington, Va., campus. He describes four years there as "very challenging, both physically and mentally, " but he excelled at the 1300-student Institute and, with a degree in History and English, he went straight on to Washington & Lee Law School.

In his final year at W&L Law, Schinstock clerked for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Roanoke, Virginia. As he was "third year practice certified, " Schinstock was fortunate enough to try motions and litigate actual jury trials while clerking there. This experience shaped his desire to become a trial attorney.

After law school, Schinstock immediately worked with former Commonwealth's Attorney, Hal St. Clair, a respected litigator in rural Alleghany County, Virginia. He spent nearly three years practicing criminal law before joining a large firm in Alexandria, where he focused on civil litigation, including personal injury, construction, and family law.

In 2002, Schinstock decided to open his own practice, focusing exclusively on family law. He started with just one client, but his reputation as a skilled and dedicated attorney quickly grew, and he has since become one of the most respected divorce and family law attorneys in the region.
